黑影 — hēiyǐng

1. shadow (a dark shape cast by an object blocking light)

   墙上有一个黑影，像是有人站在外面。 qiángshàng yǒu yígè hēiyǐng xiàngshì yǒurén zhàn zài wàimiàn — There is a shadow on the wall, as if someone is standing outside.

2. darkness (the state of being dark; lack of light)

   房间里突然一片黑影，让人看不清东西。 fángjiān lǐ tūrán yīpiàn hēiyǐng ràng rén kànbùqīng dōngxī — The room suddenly fell into darkness, making it impossible to see clearly.

3. twilight; dusk (poetic: the dim light between day and night)

   傍晚的黑影笼罩着田野，天气渐渐凉下来。 bàngwǎn de hēiyǐng lǒngzhàozhe tiányě tiānqì jiànjiàn liáng xiàlái — Twilight covered the fields, and the weather gradually cooled.
