黄沙 — huángshā

1. yellow (fine) sand; desert sand; sand carried by wind

   春天一阵大风，把路边的黄沙吹得到处都是。 chūntiān yīzhèn dàfēng bǎ lùbiān de huángshā chuī dédào chù dōu shì — A strong wind in spring blew the yellow sand from the roadside everywhere.

2. poetic/literary: vast sands or deserts; (metaphorically) distant times/places or battlefields covered by sand
