鬼 — guǐ

1. disembodied spirit; ghost; devil

   他半夜说他看见了一个鬼。 tā bànyè shuō tā kànjiàn le yígè guǐ — He said he saw a ghost at midnight.

2. (suffix) used after a noun to indicate a person with a certain vice, habit or characteristic (e.g. '懒鬼' lazybones)

   别做懒鬼，快帮忙把碗洗了。 bié zuò lǎnguǐ kuài bāngmáng bǎ wǎn xǐ le — Don't be a lazybones; hurry and wash the dishes.

3. sly; crafty; resourceful (variant of 詭/诡)

   他这个人很鬼，遇事总能想出办法。 tā zhège rén hěn guǐ yùshì zǒngnéng xiǎngchū bànfǎ — He's a crafty person; he always comes up with solutions.

4. one of the 28 constellations (the 'Gui' lunar mansion)

   古人认为鬼宿与季节变化有关。 gǔrén rènwéi guǐ sù yǔ jìjié biànhuà yǒuguān — The ancients believed the Gui mansion was linked to seasonal change.
