高祖 — gāozǔ

1. great-grandfather (father's grandfather or mother's grandfather)

   我记得我的高祖来自南方的一个小村庄。 wǒ jìde wǒ de gāozǔ láizì nánfāng de yígè xiǎo cūnzhuāng — I remember that my great-grandfather came from a small village in the south.

2. founder of a dynasty; honored ancestor (posthumous temple name or title used for the founder)

   许多朝代的开国皇帝在谥号中被称为高祖。 xǔduō cháodài de kāiguó huángdì zài shìhào zhōng bèi chēngwéi gāozǔ — Many founding emperors of dynasties are given the title 'Gaozu' in their posthumous names.
