高潮 — gāocháo

1. high tide; high water (literal)

   今天傍晚会有高潮，海边可能涨潮。 jīntiān bàngwǎn huì yǒu gāocháo hǎibiān kěnéng zhǎngcháo — There will be high tide this evening; the coast may flood.

2. an upsurge; a boom; a sharp rise in activity or feeling (figurative)

   近年来旅游业出现了旅游热的高潮。 jìnniánlái lǚyóuyè chūxiàn le lǚyóurè de gāocháo — In recent years the tourism industry has seen a boom.

3. the climax (of a story, event, competition); the peak moment of action or tension

   电影的高潮部分让全场观众都屏住了呼吸。 diànyǐng de gāocháo bùfèn ràng quánchǎng guānzhòng dōu bǐngzhù le hūxī — The film's climax made the whole audience hold their breath.

4. to have an orgasm; to reach sexual climax

   他说她从未在床上达到过高潮。 tā shuō tā cóngwèi zài chuángshàng dádào guò gāocháo — He said she had never reached orgasm in bed.
