1. chief credit; primary merit or achievement (the main person or factor to whom credit is due)

   这次工程的首功应当归于设计团队。 zhècì gōngchéng de shǒugōng yīngdāng guīyú shèjì tuánduì — The primary credit for this project should go to the design team.

2. to take chief credit; to claim the main credit for something

   他在会议上试图首功，把整件事说成是自己的主意。 tā zài huìyì shàng shìtú shǒugōng bǎ zhěngjiànshì shuō chéng shì zìjǐ de zhǔyì — He tried to take the chief credit at the meeting, presenting the whole thing as his idea.
