饥渴 — jīkě

1. hungry and thirsty; famished and parched (literal)

   远足后他感到既饥又渴。 yuǎnzú hòu tā gǎndào jì jī yòu kě — After the hike he felt both hungry and thirsty.

2. to crave; to have an intense desire (figurative), e.g. for knowledge or love

   她对知识饥渴，不断阅读。 tā duì zhīshí jīkě bùduàn yuèdú — She is hungry for knowledge and reads constantly.
