风雨 — fēngyǔ

1. wind and rain; (the) elements (weather)

   明天可能有风雨，出门别忘带伞。 míngtiān kěnéng yǒu fēngyǔ chūmén bié wàngdài sǎn — There may be wind and rain tomorrow; don't forget to bring an umbrella when you go out.

2. (figurative) trials and hardships; difficulties one experiences

   他们一起经历了许多风雨，感情比以前更牢固。 tāmen yìqǐ jīnglì le xǔduō fēngyǔ gǎnqíng bǐ yǐqián gèng láogù — They went through many trials together, and their relationship is stronger than before.
