   那艘小船在风浪中摇晃，情况很危险。 nà sōu xiǎochuán zài fēnglàng zhōng yáohuàng qíngkuàng hěn wēixiǎn — The small boat was rocking in the rough waves; the situation was dangerous.

2. (figurative) hardships; storms of life

   他年轻的时候经历过不少风浪，性格因此更坚强了。 tā niánqīng de shíhòu jīnglì guò bùshǎo fēnglàng xìnggé yīncǐ gèng jiānqiáng le — He went through many hardships when he was young, and as a result his character became stronger.
