2. to take/hold a mock exam; to test in advance

   学校每学期都会预考一次以检测学生水平。 xuéxiào měixuéqī dū huì yùkǎo yīcì yǐ jiǎncè xuéshēng shuǐpíng — The school gives a mock exam each term to check students' levels.
