1. a hard or stubborn lump of stone; a block of rock (literal)

   山坡上露出几块顽石，风吹不动。 shānpō shàng lùchū jǐkuài wánshí fēngchuībùdòng — Several hard stones protruded on the hillside; the wind couldn't move them.

2. a stubborn or unyielding person (figurative: literally 'stone-like stubbornness')

   他像一块顽石，大家的劝说都改变不了他的主意。 tā xiàng yīkuài wánshí dàjiā de quànshuō dōu gǎibiàn bùliǎo tā de zhǔyì — He is like a block of stubborn stone; no one's persuasion can change his mind.
