   今天早上青云高照，天气很好。 jīntiān zǎoshàng qīngyún gāozhào tiānqì hěn hǎo — This morning the sky was clear; the weather was very good.

2. figurative: a high official position; rapid promotion to high rank

   他出身寒微，经过多年努力终于青云直上，成为部门领导。 tā chūshēn hánwēi jīngguò duōnián nǔlì zhōngyú qīngyúnzhíshàng chéngwéi bùmén lǐngdǎo — He came from a humble background and after years of effort rose quickly to become a department leader.

3. noble; lofty (figurative)

   他的志向十分高远，气度显得青云般不凡。 tā de zhìxiàng shífēn gāoyuǎn qìdù xiǎnde qīngyún bān bùfán — His ambitions are lofty, and his bearing seems unusually noble.
