1. zero; nought; the numeral 0

   这个数字是零。 zhège shùzì shì líng — This number is zero.

2. fractional; fragmentary; partial

   这只是一个零散的证据，不能证明指控。 zhè zhǐshì yígè língsǎn de zhèngjù bùnéng zhèngmíng zhǐkòng — This is only fragmentary evidence and cannot prove the accusation.

3. odd (of numbers)

   我口袋里只剩下零钱了。 wǒ kǒudài lǐ zhǐ shèngxià língqián le — All I have left in my pocket is small change.

4. used between two numbers to indicate a smaller quantity followed by a larger one (usage in compound numbers or measurements)

   这本书一共三百零五页。 zhè běnshū yīgòng sānbǎi líng wǔyè — This book has three hundred and five pages in total.

5. remainder (in mathematics); fractional part after division

   这道除法题的余数为零。 zhè dào chúfǎ tí de yúshù wèi líng — The remainder of this division problem is zero.

6. extra; spare; additional

   车上有一套零件作为备用。 chēshàng yǒu yītào língjiàn zuòwéi bèiyòng — There is a spare set of parts in the car.

7. to wither and fall; to wither (of leaves, flowers)

   秋风一来，很多树叶开始零落。 qiūfēng yīlái hěnduō shùyè kāishǐ língluò — When the autumn wind came, many leaves began to wither and fall.
