1. unpleasant to hear; (of a sound) harsh

   这首歌太难听了，我都听不下去。 zhè shǒugē tài nántīng le wǒ dōu tīng bùxià qù — This song is so unpleasant to hear I can't listen to it.

2. coarse; vulgar; offensive (words, tone)

   他刚才说的话很难听，不应该那样骂人。 tā gāngcái shuō dehuà hěn nántīng bù yīnggāi nàyàng màrén — What he said just now was very offensive; he shouldn't insult people like that.

3. shameful; unbecoming (behavior that causes embarrassment)

   你这样骂人，话说得太难听了。 nǐ zhèyàng màrén huà shuō dé tài nántīng le — Speaking to people like that is really shameful.
