1. difficult; hard (to do)

   这个问题很难解决。 zhège wèntí hěn nán jiějué — This problem is very difficult to solve.

2. difficulty; problem; trouble

   他向我诉说了心中的难。 tā xiàng wǒ sùshuō le xīnzhōng de nán — He confided to me his troubles.

3. not good; poor (colloquial)

   这首歌不难听，挺好的。 zhè shǒugē bùnán tīng tǐng hǎo de — This song is not bad-sounding, it's quite nice.

难 — nàn

1. disaster; distress; calamity

   那场大火让全村蒙难。 nàchǎng dàhuǒ ràng quáncūn méngnàn — That great fire brought disaster upon the whole village.

2. to scold; to berate; to rebuke

   他在会上百般刁难新来的同事。 tā zài huìshàng bǎibāndiāonàn xīn lái de tóngshì — At the meeting he berated the new colleague in every possible way.
