1. separated by a generation; as if belonging to a different era

   老照片里的人看起来像是隔世的人。 lǎozhàopiān lǐ de rén kànqǐlái xiàngshì géshì de rén — The people in the old photos look like they belong to a different generation.

2. a lifetime ago; long ago

   那些事发生在隔世以前，现在已经很难回忆起来。 nàxiē shì fāshēng zài géshì yǐqián xiànzài yǐjīng hěn nán huíyì qǐlái — Those events happened a lifetime ago and are now hard to recall.
