1. to separate; to partition

   他们用一面墙把房间隔开了。 tāmen yòng yímiàn qiáng bǎ fángjiān gékāi le — They used a wall to divide the room.

2. to stand or lie between (something and something else)

   村庄隔着一条河与城市相望。 cūnzhuāng gé zhe yītiáo hé yǔ chéngshì xiāngwàng — The village lies across a river from the city.

3. at a distance from; apart from

   他家就隔着马路。 tājiā jiù gé zhe mǎlù — His house is just across the road.

4. after or at an interval of (time); every (X)

   他隔三天就去一次图书馆。 tā gé sāntiān jiù qù yīcì túshūguǎn — He goes to the library every three days.
