隐逸 — yǐnyì

1. to live in seclusion; to withdraw from society

   他退休后选择隐逸，不再参加任何社交活动。 tā tuìxiū hòu xuǎnzé yǐnyì bùzài cānjiā rènhé shèjiāohuódòng — After retiring he chose to live in seclusion and no longer took part in any social activities.

2. reclusive; withdrawn

   她性格隐逸，不喜欢被很多人打扰。 tā xìnggé yǐnyì bù xǐhuān bèi hěnduō rén dǎrǎo — She is reclusive by nature and doesn't like to be disturbed by many people.

3. hermit; recluse (a person who lives apart from society)

   他被村里人当作隐逸，常年一个人在山中居住。 tā bèi cūnlǐrén dàngzuò yǐnyì chángnián yígè rén zài shānzhōng jūzhù — He was regarded by the villagers as a recluse, living alone in the mountains for years.
