   孩子们在院子里玩足球。 háizi men zài yuànzi lǐ wán zúqiú — The children are playing soccer in the yard.

2. (archaic) servant

   老爷吩咐院子去街上买点酒。 lǎoyé fēnfù yuànzi qù jiēshàng mǎidiǎn jiǔ — The master ordered the servant to go buy some wine on the street.
