1. vassal; dependent; subordinate; a state or person that is politically subordinate to another

   古代许多小国是大帝国的附庸，需进贡并服从命令。 gǔdài xǔduō xiǎoguó shì dà dìguó de fùyōng xū jìngòng bìng fúcóngmìnglìng — In ancient times many small states were vassals of the great empire, required to pay tribute and obey orders.
