阿斗 — ādǒu

1. A-dou, nickname of Liu Shan (劉禪|刘禅, 207–271), son of Liu Bei and emperor of Shu Han (reigned 233–263).

   史书上记载，刘禅被称为阿斗。 shǐshū shàng jìzǎi liúchán bèi chēngwéi ādǒu — Historical records note that Liu Shan was called A-dou.

2. (fig.) a weak, inept or incompetent person; used derogatorily.

   他在关键时刻总是出错，大家私下叫他阿斗。 tā zài guānjiànshíkè zǒngshì chūcuò dàjiā sīxià jiào tā ādǒu — He always fails at critical moments; people privately call him A-dou.
