阿弥陀佛 — ēmítuófó

1. Amitabha Buddha; the Buddha of the Western Pure Land

   阿弥陀佛是净土宗崇敬的佛。 ēmítuófó shì jìngtǔzōng chóngjìng de fú — Amitabha is the Buddha venerated in Pure Land Buddhism.

2. an exclamation meaning "may the lord Buddha preserve us" (used as a blessing or supplication)

   听到有人受伤，路人连声喊阿弥陀佛为伤者祈祷。 tīngdào yǒurén shòushāng lùrén liánshēng hǎn ēmítuófó wèi shāngzhě qídǎo — Hearing someone was injured, passersby kept crying "Amitabha" to pray for the wounded.

3. a respectful or exclamatory address invoking the merciful Buddha ("merciful Buddha!")

   老人见到善举不禁低声说阿弥陀佛表达感激。 lǎorén jiàndào shànjǔ bùjīn dīshēng shuō ēmítuófó biǎodá gǎnjī — The old man, seeing the good deed, couldn't help softly saying "Amitabha" to express gratitude.
