   老师阅了学生的试卷。 lǎoshī yuè le xuéshēng de shìjuàn — The teacher inspected the students' exam papers.

2. to read; to peruse; to go through

   我昨天阅了一整本小说。 wǒ zuótiān yuè le yī zhěngběn xiǎoshuō — I read through an entire novel yesterday.

3. to experience (archaic/rare usage)

   他一生阅人无数，看人很准。 tā yīshēng yuè rén wúshù kàn rén hěn zhǔn — Throughout his life he has encountered countless people and judges them well.
