闹 — nào

1. noisy; cacophonous

   外面很闹，根本睡不着。 wàimiàn hěn nào gēnběn shuìbùzhe — It's very noisy outside; I can't sleep at all.

2. to make a disturbance; to disturb

   别在图书馆闹，大家需要安静。 bié zài túshūguǎn nào dàjiā xūyào ānjìng — Don't make a disturbance in the library; everyone needs quiet.

3. to vent (one's feelings); to make a scene

   他一生气就喜欢闹，最后把问题说开了。 tā yī shēngqì jiù xǐhuān nào zuìhòu bǎ wèntí shuō kāi le — When he gets angry he likes to make a scene; in the end he talked the problem through.

4. to suffer from (an ailment); to have an attack (of something) — e.g., 闹肚子 (have diarrhea)

   我昨天晚上吃坏东西，今天早上一直在闹肚子。 wǒ zuótiānwǎnshàng chī huàidōngxi jīntiān zǎoshàng yìzhí zài nàodùzi — I ate something bad last night; this morning I've had diarrhea.

5. to play around; to joke or mess (in informal contexts)

   别闹了，我们认真一点儿吧。 biénào le wǒmen rènzhēn yìdiǎnér ba — Stop joking around; let's be a bit more serious.
