1. to suppress; to put down; to quell (a rebellion, protest, etc.)

   军队迅速镇压了暴动。 jūnduì xùnsù zhènyā le bàodòng — The army quickly suppressed the uprising.

2. suppression; repression (the act of putting down unrest or opposition)

   那次镇压引起了国际社会的谴责。 nàcì zhènyā yǐnqǐ le guójì shèhuì de qiǎnzé — That suppression drew condemnation from the international community.
