2. to hammer and temper (metal); to physically work metal with a hammer and heat

   师傅在铁匠铺里用锤子反复锤炼刀刃。 shīfù zài tiějiàngpù lǐ yòng chuízi fǎnfù chuíliàn dāorèn — The master repeatedly tempered the blade with a hammer in the smithy.
