钳 — qián

1. pincers; pliers; tongs; (animal) claw

   他用钳子把电线的绝缘皮剥掉，然后用钳把拧紧接头。 tāyòng qiánzi bǎ diànxiàn de juéyuán pí bōdiào ránhòu yòng qián bǎ nǐngjǐn jiētóu — He used pliers to strip the insulation from the wire, then tightened the joint with the pliers.

2. to grasp with pincers; to pinch; to clamp

   小猫用爪子把线团钳住不放。 xiǎomāo yòng zhuǎzi bǎ xiàntuán qián zhù bùfàng — The kitten pinched the ball of yarn with its paw and wouldn't let go.

3. to restrain; to restrict; to gag (figurative)

   政府的审查把言论自由钳住了。 zhèngfǔ de shěnchá bǎ yánlùnzìyóu qián zhù le — The government's censorship has clamped down on freedom of speech.
