钩 — gōu

1. to hook; to catch with a hook; to snag

   他用手把外套的纽扣钩上了。 tāyòng shǒubǎ wàitào de niǔkòu gōu shàng le — He hooked up the coat's button with his hand.

2. to crochet; to knit by hooking

   奶奶每天坐在院子里钩毛衣给孙子。 nǎinǎi měitiān zuòzài yuànzi lǐ gōumáoyī gěi sūnzi — Grandma crochets sweaters for her grandson every day in the yard.

3. hook (tool or implement)

   门上有一个铁钩可以挂外套。 ménshàng yǒu yígè tiěgōu kěyǐ guà wàitào — There is an iron hook on the door to hang coats.

4. check mark; tick (mark indicating completion or selection)

   在考卷上正确答案旁边老师打了钩。 zài kǎojuàn shàng zhèngquè dáàn pángbiān lǎoshī dǎ le gōu — The teacher put a check next to the correct answers on the test.

5. window catch; latch (a small hook used to fasten a window)

   老房子的窗钩坏了，需要修理。 lǎofángzi de chuāng gōu huài le xūyào xiūlǐ — The window catch of the old house is broken and needs repair.
