钝化 — dùnhuà

1. to passivate; to render (a metal) chemically less reactive by forming a protective film

   为了防止生锈，表面需要钝化处理。 wèile fángzhǐ shēngxiù biǎomiàn xūyào dùnhuà chǔlǐ — To prevent rusting, the surface needs to be passivated.

2. dull; blunt (not sharp)

   这把刀太钝化了，切不动面包。 zhè bǎ dāo tài dùnhuà le qiè bùdòng miànbāo — This knife is too blunt; it can't cut the bread.
