   桌子掉了一颗钉子，得补上。 zhuōzi diào le yīkē dīngzi dé bǔshàng — A nail fell out of the table; it needs to be fixed.

2. to stare at; to follow closely; to keep at someone (to do something) — variant of 盯 ding1

   老师一直钉着他看，问他为什么没交作业。 lǎoshī yìzhí dīng zhe tā kàn wèn tā wèishénme méijiāo zuòyè — The teacher kept staring at him and asked why he hadn't turned in his homework.
