1. to overlap; to superimpose; to run together

   这些会议在时间上有重叠，得改一下安排。 zhèxiē huìyì zài shíjiān shàngyǒu chóngdié dé gǎi yīxià ānpái — These meetings overlap in time; we need to change the schedule.

2. an overlap; redundancy; superposition (e.g., duplicated parts)

   两个部门的职责有重叠，造成了资源浪费。 liǎnggè bùmén de zhízé yǒu chóngdié zàochéng le zīyuán làngfèi — There is overlap in responsibilities between the two departments, causing wasted resources.

3. reduplication (a grammatical process where a verb or adjective is repeated to indicate a short, casual or tentative action)

   孩子们喜欢把动词重叠来表示动作短促：走走、看看。 háizi men xǐhuān bǎ dòngcí chóngdié lái biǎoshì dòngzuò duǎncù zǒuzǒu kànkàn — Children like to use verb reduplication to show brief actions: zǒu zǒu, kàn kan.
