1. to ferment (of alcohol)

   葡萄汁在窖里静静地酝酿，最终变成了美酒。 pútáozhī zài jiào lǐ jìngjìngdì yùnniàng zuìzhōng biànchéng le měijiǔ — The grape juice quietly fermented in the cellar and eventually became fine wine.

2. to be brewing; (of a crisis, trouble) to be developing

   不加控制的债务可能在未来几年酝酿出更大的金融风险。 bùjiā kòngzhì de zhàiwù kěnéng zài wèilái jǐnián yùnniàng chū gèng dà de jīnróngfēngxiǎn — Uncontrolled debt may be brewing into larger financial risks in the coming years.

3. to mull over; to think carefully about an issue
