配 — pèi

1. to fit; to match (e.g., clothing, parts)

   这双鞋大小很合适，跟我的脚很配。 zhèshuāng xié dàxiǎo hěn héshì gēn wǒ de jiǎo hěn pèi — These shoes fit well and match my feet.

2. to pair; to mate; to match (people or animals)

   他们觉得两人很配，决定介绍给彼此认识。 tāmen juéde liǎng rén hěn pèi juédìng jièshào gěi bǐcǐ rènshí — They think the two are well matched and decided to introduce them to each other.

3. to mix; to blend (ingredients, chemicals)

   医生把几种药配在一起给病人服用。 yīshēng bǎ jǐzhǒng yào pèizàiyìqǐ gěi bìngrén fúyòng — The doctor mixed several medicines together for the patient to take.

4. to deserve; to be worthy of (often used in the pattern '配得上')

   他配得上这个职位吗？ tā pèidé shàng zhège zhíwèi ma — Is he deserving of this position?

5. to dispense or compose a prescription; to prepare (medicine)

   药师按照处方配好药后交给病人。 yàoshī ànzhào chǔfāng pèi hǎo yào hòu jiāogěi bìngrén — The pharmacist prepared the medicine according to the prescription and handed it to the patient.

6. to allocate; to assign (resources, duties)

   公司把更多预算配给了研发部门。 gōngsī bǎ gèngduō yùsuàn pèijǐ le yánfābùmén — The company allocated more budget to the R&D department.
