1. that one; that thing (demonstrative referring to something further away or previously mentioned)

   我不要那个，我要这个。 wǒ búyào nàge wǒ yào zhège — I don't want that one, I want this one.

2. that (used in contrast with this)

   这个好，那个不好。 zhège hǎo nàge bùhǎo — This one is good, that one is not.

3. used before a verb or adjective for emphasis

   他那个高得不得了。 tā nàge gāo dé bùdéle — He is really/so tall.

4. colloquial filler word in speech (like "um", "you know") used when thinking or to avoid saying something directly

   那个……我还没想好。 nàge wǒ hái méixiǎng hǎo — Um... I haven't decided yet.

5. euphemistic/slang: menstruation; sex

   他用那个词来指代性。 tāyòng nàge cí lái zhǐdài xìng — He used that word to refer to sex.
