避震 — bìzhèn

1. to avoid earthquake; to take shelter from shaking (take cover during an earthquake)

   地震发生时我们应该马上避震，躲到结实的桌子下。 dìzhèn fāshēng shí wǒmen yīnggāi mǎshàng bìzhèn duǒ dào jiēshí de zhuōzi xià — When an earthquake occurs we should immediately take cover, hiding under a sturdy table.

2. to dampen vibration; to provide shock absorption or vibration isolation

   这台机器加装了避震装置，运行时噪音和震动都明显降低。 zhè tái jīqì jiāzhuāng le bìzhèn zhuāngzhì yùnxíng shí zàoyīn hé zhèndòng dōu míngxiǎnjiàngdī — This machine is fitted with vibration‑damping devices; noise and vibration are significantly reduced when running.
