遗嘱 — yízhǔ

1. testament; will (document stating a person's wishes about property and affairs after death)

   他在临终前立了一份遗嘱，把房子留给了女儿。 tā zài línzhōngqián lì le yīfèn yízhǔ bǎ fángzi liúgěi le nǚér — He made a will before he died, leaving the house to his daughter.

2. last wishes; instructions left by someone (often used in contexts discussing inheritance or final directions)

   爷爷去世前留下的遗嘱表达了他对家人的期待。 yéyé qùshì qián liúxià de yízhǔ biǎodá le tā duì jiārén de qīdài — The will Grandpa left before he died expressed his expectations for the family.
