遇事 — yùshì

1. to encounter; to meet (a problem, situation, etc.)

   我们在路上遇事，必须马上通知总部。 wǒmen zài lùshàng yùshì bìxū mǎshàng tōngzhī zǒngbù — We encountered something on the road; we must notify headquarters immediately.

2. if/when (something) happens; in case of (an incident)

   遇事要冷静，不要惊慌。 yùshì yào lěngjìng búyào jīnghuāng — When something happens, stay calm; don't panic.
