1. to encounter; to meet (unexpectedly); to come across

   我昨天在路上遇到一个老同学。 wǒ zuótiān zài lùshàng yùdào yígè lǎotóngxué — I ran into an old classmate on the road yesterday.

2. to treat; to receive (as a kind of reception — used in compounds, e.g. 冷遇 'cold treatment')

   他在公司里遇到了冷遇，晋升受阻。 tā zài gōngsī lǐ yùdào le lěngyù jìnshēng shòuzǔ — He received a cold reception at the company and was blocked from promotion.
