通车 — tōngchē

1. to open to traffic (e.g. a new bridge or rail line); to put into service for vehicles/trains

   这座新桥下周就要通车了。 zhè zuò xīnqiáo xiàzhōu jiùyào tōngchē le — This new bridge will open to traffic next week.

2. (of a locality) to have a transportation service; to be connected by transport

   这个小镇还没有通车，出行很不方便。 zhège xiǎozhèn hái méiyǒu tōngchē chūxíng hěn bù fāngbiàn — This small town doesn't yet have transport service; travel is very inconvenient.

3. (Taiwan) to commute (e.g. travel regularly between home and work/school)

   我每天都要从郊区通车到市区上班。 wǒ měitiān dōu yào cóng jiāoqū tōngchē dào shìqū shàngbān — I commute from the suburbs to the city every day.
