1. correspondent (journalist who reports for a newspaper/radio/TV)

   她是一名驻京通讯员，负责向总部报道当地情况。 tā shì yīmíng zhùjīng tōngxùnyuán fùzé xiàng zǒngbù bàodào dāngdì qíngkuàng — She is a correspondent based in Beijing, responsible for reporting local conditions to headquarters.

2. reporter (general term for someone who gathers and transmits news)

   那位通讯员每天都到街头采访，写稿送回编辑部。 nàwèi tōngxùnyuán měitiān dōu dào jiētóu cǎifǎng xiěgǎo sònghuí biānjíbù — That reporter goes out to the streets every day to interview people and sends articles back to the editorial office.

3. messenger boy (older or informal usage for someone who delivers messages)

   以前公司里还有通讯员负责把文件送到各个部门。 yǐqián gōngsī lǐ háiyǒu tōngxùnyuán fùzé bǎ wénjiàn sòngdào gègèbùmén — In the past the company even had messenger boys responsible for delivering documents to each department.
