tōngqiào

通窍 — tōngqiào

1. to open or clear the bodily orifices (esp. in traditional Chinese medicine); to restore normal flow or ventilation

   这剂中药可以通窍，缓解鼻塞。 zhè jì zhōngyào kěyǐ tōngqiào huǎnjiě bísè — This herbal prescription can open the orifices and relieve nasal congestion.

2. to make someone suddenly understand; to bring someone to realization (colloquial, close to "开窍")

   经过一番讲解，他终于通窍了。 jīngguò yīfān jiǎngjiě tā zhōngyú tōngqiào le — After an explanation, he finally understood.
