逗 — dòu

1. to tease (playfully); to make fun of in a friendly way

   别逗我了，我知道你在开玩笑。 bié dòuwǒ le wǒ zhīdào nǐ zài kāiwánxiào — Don't tease me; I know you're joking.

2. to entice; to attract (someone, e.g. with promise or charm)

   这家店的甜点很能逗顾客来光顾。 zhèjiā diàn de tiándiǎn hěn néng dòu gùkè lái guānggù — The shop's desserts really entice customers to visit.

3. (colloquial) to joke; to kid; to say something jokingly

   你别逗了，快告诉我真实情况。 nǐ bié dòu le kuài gàosù wǒ zhēnshíqíngkuàng — Don't joke around; quickly tell me the real situation.

4. funny; amusing (coll.)

   他说的话很逗，大家都笑了。 tā shuō dehuà hěn dòu dàjiā dōu xiào le — What he said was funny; everyone laughed.

5. to stay; to sojourn; to remain for a short time

   他在外地逗了几天才回来。 tā zài wàidì dòu le jǐtiān cái huílái — He stayed out of town for a few days before coming back.

6. brief pause at the end of a phrase (variant of 讀|读[dou4])

   读这句话时要在“也”字后稍作一逗。 dú zhè jù huà shí yào zài yě zì hòu shāozuò yī dòu — When reading this sentence, pause briefly after the character 'ye'.
