选读 — xuǎndú

1. to read selectively; to skim or choose parts to read

   我只是随便选读了几页。 wǒ zhǐshì suíbiàn xuǎndú le jǐyè — I just skimmed/selected a few pages.

2. optional reading; elective course or material (in a curriculum)

   这门课是选读，不算学分。 zhè mén kè shì xuǎndú bùsuàn xuéfēn — This course is an elective and does not count for credits.
