追赶 — zhuīgǎn

1. to pursue; to chase after (a person or animal)

   警察追赶罪犯，最终将他逮住了。 jǐngchá zhuīgǎn zuìfàn zuìzhōng jiāng tā dǎizhù le — The police chased the criminal and finally caught him.

2. to accelerate; to speed up (work, production, progress)

   公司计划在下半年追赶市场份额的增长。 gōngsī jìhuà zài xiàbànnián zhuīgǎn shìchǎngfèné de zēngzhǎng — The company plans to speed up gains in market share in the second half of the year.

3. to catch up with (someone or something that is ahead)

   他跑得很快，但我终于追赶上他了。 tā pǎo dé hěnkuài dàn wǒ zhōngyú zhuīgǎn shàng tā le — He ran fast, but I finally caught up with him.

4. to overtake (pass and go ahead of, e.g., a vehicle)

   在高速公路上超车时要注意不要强行追赶前车。 zài gāosùgōnglù shàng chāochē shí yào zhùyì búyào qiángxíng zhuīgǎn qiánchē — When overtaking on the highway, be careful not to forcefully chase the vehicle ahead.
