追 — zhuī

1. to chase; to pursue

   警察追了那个嫌疑人好几条街。 jǐngchá zhuī le nàge xiányírén hǎojǐtiáo jiē — The police chased the suspect for several blocks.

2. to look into; to investigate

   我们会追查事故的原因。 wǒmen huì zhuīchá shìgù de yuányīn — We will investigate the cause of the accident.

3. to reminisce; to recall

   他常常追念过去的时光。 tā chángcháng zhuīniàn guòqù de shíguāng — He often reminisces about the past.

4. to court (one's beloved); to woo

   他花了很多时间追她，但最终成功了。 tā huā le hěnduō shíjiān zhuī tā dàn zuìzhōng chénggōng le — He spent a lot of time courting her, and finally succeeded.

5. to binge-watch (a TV drama); to catch up on episodes

   大家都在追那部新剧。 dàjiā dōu zài zhuī nàbù xīnjù — Everyone is binge-watching that new drama.

6. retroactively; posthumously

   他的职称被追授为教授。 tā de zhíchēng bèi zhuīshòu wèi jiàoshòu — His title was awarded posthumously as professor.

追 — duī

1. to sculpt; to carve

   古代匠人用玉石追琢出精美的器物。 gǔdài jiàngrén yòng yùshí zhuī zuó chū jīngměi de qìwù — Ancient artisans carved exquisite objects out of jade.

2. an old musical instrument (archaic)

   博物馆里陈列着一件名为追的古乐器。 bówùguǎn lǐ chénliè zhe yījiàn míngwèi zhuī de gǔ yuèqì — The museum displays an ancient musical instrument called 'duī'.
