1. to connect

   这两条管道已连通，水可以流过。 zhè liǎngtiáo guǎndào yǐ liántōng shuǐ kěyǐ liúguò — The two pipes are connected; water can flow through.

2. to communicate; to be in contact

   两国要加强连通，方便人员往来。 liǎngguó yào jiāqiáng liántōng fāngbiàn rényuán wǎnglái — The two countries should strengthen communication to facilitate travel of people.

3. to relate; to have a connection (between things)

   他的论点和证据并不连通，结论站不住脚。 tā de lùndiǎn hé zhèngjù bìng bù liántōng jiélùn zhànbúzhùjiǎo — His argument and evidence are not related; the conclusion doesn't hold up.

4. connected (in mathematics; topologically connected)

   这个区域在拓扑学上是连通的。 zhège qūyù zài tuòpūxué shàng shì liántōng de — This region is connected in topology.
