1. an outing; excursion; a trip for pleasure, often on foot

   我们周末去远足吧，去爬山。 wǒmen zhōumò qù yuǎnzú ba qù páshān — Let's go on a hike this weekend and climb a mountain.

2. to go on a hike or excursion; to march (as a group over a distance)

   学生们今天早上在郊外远足了十公里。 xuéshēng men jīntiān zǎoshàng zài jiāowài yuǎnzú le shígōnglǐ — The students hiked ten kilometers in the suburbs this morning.
