1. far; distant; remote

   那条路很远，开车要一个小时。 nàtiáo lù hěnyuǎn kāichē yào yígè xiǎoshí — That road is far; it takes an hour by car.

2. by far; much (used as an intensifier in comparisons)

   他远比我想象的更聪明。 tā yuǎn bǐ wǒ xiǎngxiàng de gèng cōngmíng — He is by far smarter than I imagined.

1. to distance oneself from; to keep away from (classical)

   君子须远小人，以保其行。 jūnzǐ xū yuǎn xiǎorén yǐ bǎo qí xíng — A gentleman must distance himself from petty people to safeguard his conduct.
