进门 — jìnmén

1. to enter (a door); to go in

   孩子们一进门就脱掉鞋子。 háizi men yī jìnmén jiù tuōdiào xiézi — The children take off their shoes as soon as they enter.

2. to learn the basics of a subject; to be initiated into a field

   刚进门的学生通常要花些时间适应课程。 gāng jìnmén de xuéshēng tōngcháng yào huā xiē shíjiān shìyìng kèchéng — Students who are just starting out usually need time to adapt to the course.

3. to join one's husband's household upon marriage (traditional usage)

   在一些传统家庭，嫁女儿要注意她进门后的生活安排。 zài yīxiē chuántǒng jiātíng jià nǚér yào zhùyì tā jìnmén hòu de shēnghuó ānpái — In some traditional families, when a daughter marries attention is paid to her life after joining her husband's household.
