还乡团 — háixiāngtuán

1. historical militia formed by landlords and gentry to suppress peasant uprisings or to protect local order; loosely, reactionary home-guard groups

   村里老人还记得当年还乡团的暴行。 cūnlǐ lǎorén hái jìde dāngnián huánxiāngtuán de bàoxíng — The village elders still remember the atrocities committed by the landlord militia back then.

2. a group of people returning to their hometown (rare, literal usage)

   春节前，一群还乡团从城里回到了村子。 chūnjié qián yīqún huánxiāngtuán cóng chénglǐ huídào le cūnzi — Before the Spring Festival, a group returning to their hometown came back to the village from the city.
